A Community That Cares

What’s the most accurate predictor of student achievement? Here’s a hint: it starts at home! The engagement of families in their child’s education is a critical indicator of student success. That’s because when parents and caregivers are involved in children’s school lives, they show them that school – and learning – is important.

DLINC is a small tuition-free public school with a tight-knit community that cares about each other. Our parents, caregivers, and community are involved in so many ways – and we all work together to inspire empathetic, respectful students. When you join the DLINC family, here are just a few ways you can get involved:

Volunteers Wanted

We welcome caregivers to our campus throughout the school day to help – as room parents, reading buddies, lunch supervisors and more. We also rely on parent and caregiver volunteers to chaperone school field trips and assist with our busy calendar of off-campus activities. Our teachers and staff ask for help from our community throughout the school year – it’s up to our families to decide when and how much to be involved.

Join our PTO

The DLINC Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) is an active, committed group of parent volunteers that meet regularly to plan activities that support our school. They are involved with annual events like our Ice Cream Social, Jog-a-Thon, Spirit Week, Bingo Night, Field Day, End of the Year Bash, and provide supplies for teachers and finance field trip transpiration. Our PTO is always looking for new members – click here to find out more!

Families Learn Too

At DLINC we understand the challenges that come with raising today’s learners. We provide support for families through a 10-week Parent Institute for Quality Education that helps caregivers gain new skills, tools and resources to help their students succeed in school. We also offer math workshops for parents looking to support our math curriculum at home, and present family forums throughout the year on issues affecting our community.

Teachers are Partners

Research shows that a partnership approach between parents and teachers can improve children’s work habits and grades. Our teachers know our students and their families on a personal level, and often partner together to support student success. Whether it’s reaching out to check in about what is happening at school, meeting at regular conferences, or keeping everyone apprised of important things about your child, ongoing communication between DLINC parents and teachers is essential to our students’ success.

Respect Matters

Thanks to the support and involvement of our families, our school is a safe, respectful and nurturing learning environment with no bullying. Our teachers are trained in restorative justice practices that build empathetic communities inside the classroom. These practices emphasize prevention over punishment, helping students understand their role in creating a respectful learning environment. They can also be reinforced at home, by engaging caregivers in the process. Restorative justice helps students understand a situation, follow a process and resolve it - real-life skills that they can take with them into the world.

Community Connections

Our DLINC “family” also includes local businesses, nonprofits and artists that support and inspire our students throughout the year. These businesses host field trips, coordinate service-learning projects, and plan other special activities that take our students off campus and into the community. Local artists visit our school to conduct residencies around writing, music, visual art and more. Our community partners provide unique opportunities for our students to learn about other cultures, incorporate our curriculum into hands-on activities, work on team building skills, and simply have fun!

Thanks to our involved community, DLINC students thrive in our safe, nurturing environment. Find out more about how you can join our family and enroll today!
